San Ángel Self-Guided Audio Walk: El Carmen's Tiled Domes, the Saturday Bazaar and the Rivera-Kahlo Studios

About this experience

San Ángel was a friars' village before it was part of Mexico City. A Carmelite college gave it its name, and its orchards and haciendas became the walled houses that line its cobbled lanes. Start at the monument built for Álvaro Obregón's arm, where he was shot in 1928. See El Carmen's tiled domes, the Casa del Risco and its fountain of broken porcelain, Plaza San Jacinto and the Saturday bazaar, and the Dominican church that gave the village its first name. Then follow quiet lanes of high garden walls to Juan O'Gorman's concrete studios for Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, and end at the San Ángel Inn, an orchard grant of 1616. Ten stops, about 2.1 km and just under an hour and a half, at your own pace in English or Spanish. Museum entry not included; the museums close on Mondays and the bazaar opens on Saturdays.

What's included

Walk San Ángel from the Obregón monument past El Carmen's tiled domes, the Casa del Risco, Plaza San Jacinto and its Saturday bazaar, and cobbled walled lanes to the Rivera-Kahlo studios and the San Ángel Inn.
