Coyoacán Self-Guided Audio Walk: Frida Kahlo's Blue House, Trotsky's Fortress and the Coyote Fountain

About this experience

Coyoacán was a village before it was part of Mexico City, and its walls tell its story. Convent churchyard walls came down to give it public gardens. Then, in the late 1930s, new walls went up around Leon Trotsky, first at Frida Kahlo's blue house and then at a fortified home a few blocks away. Start at the Viveros, Mexico's first forestry nursery, and walk the cobbled royal road of Francisco Sosa to the convent arch and the bronze coyote fountain. See San Juan Bautista, the red house legend ties to La Malinche, and La Conchita, a chapel on a pre-Hispanic mound with a front modeled by Indigenous craftsmen. At Plaza Hidalgo, hear the soldiers' graffiti on Cortés's walls and stand where Frida married Diego Rivera. Then follow the blue walls of the Casa Azul to Trotsky's house. Twelve stops, about 3.6 km and two hours, at your own pace in English or Spanish. Museum entry not included; the Casa Azul needs a timed ticket bought online.
