Chapultepec Park Self-Guided Audio Walk: Grasshopper Hill, Moctezuma's Water Tank and the Great Oval

About this experience

Chapultepec is Mexico City's biggest park, and most visitors rush to the castle or the museums and miss the park itself. This self-guided audio walk takes you round it in one ring of about four kilometres and eleven stops, at your own pace, with no group and no fixed start time. Join the ring at any stop. The story follows the water first: an extinct volcano on the old shore of Lake Texcoco, springs that fed the Mexica capital, and a stone tank renamed the Baños de Moctezuma long after anyone bathed there. Then the trees, from the dead ahuehuete El Sargento to the great oval avenue. Then the people: lakes dug from 1901, a fountain copied from Seville, and the Tlaloc monolith that crossed the city in 1964. Two optional stories play inside Chapultepec Castle. Admission is not included: the castle charges 210 pesos for foreign visitors (2026) and the museums charge separately. The park and the castle are closed on Mondays. Not affiliated with INAH, Pro Bosque or any museum.

What's included

Eleven stories around Chapultepec's great oval avenue, in any order, from any gate: a volcano on an old lake shore, a bath that never was one, a fountain copied from Seville, two lakes dug by hand
