Latin Quarter Self-Guided Audio Walk: Sorbonne, Panthéon and Saint-Germain-des-Prés
90 minutes

About this experience
The Latin Quarter took its name from the Latin once used in its schools, and every regime since has remade its hill to make a point: a cardinal's domed chapel, a king's church turned into the nation's resting place, a queen's palace turned into the Senate, and a boulevard driven through the old lanes. Start at a twelfth-century church across the Seine from Notre-Dame, pass Saint-Séverin and the Rue de la Huchette to the Fontaine Saint-Michel, built to hide a wall, and see the walls of Roman baths from around AD 100. Climb past the Sorbonne to the Panthéon, cross the Luxembourg Garden past the Medici Fountain and the Senate's palace, see Saint-Sulpice's mismatched towers, and end beneath the bell tower of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, begun around 990. Twelve stops, about 2.7 km and 90 minutes, at your own pace, in English. Entry to the Musée de Cluny and the Panthéon is not included; the churches are free.
