Lima Barranco Self-Guided Audio Walk: Bridge of Sighs, Murals and Pacific Cliff Views
65 minutes
About this experience
Barranco sits on a cliff above the Pacific, and it was built to get Lima down to the sea. Summer families came by train and tram, then cut paths, stairs, a funicular and water pumps into the cliff. In 1881 soldiers burned much of the town, and it came back. Start where the trams are remembered, cross the town square to the parish church and walk up the high street to Casa Rosell, a summer house with twin staircases. Then stand on the English promenade of the 1890s and walk a street where a funicular once ran to the beach. Follow the Bajada de Baños, a ravine path lined with murals, cross the wooden Bridge of Sighs holding your breath, meet Chabuca Granda's statue and the legend of La Ermita, and end at a viewpoint over the whole Costa Verde. Eleven stops, about 1.8 km and 65 minutes, at your own pace in English or Spanish. Two short flights of steps. La Ermita is a restoration site, seen from outside.
