Haarlem's harbour mouth sits in a village of locks. The dam billed the ships. The bronze boy on the dike is a tourist-board invention. This ten-stop walk of about 2 km starts at the Kolksluis, still called the oldest working lock in Europe, then the church where Frans Hals signed a register, the Hansje Brinker statue on the Woerdersluis, the Grote Sluis on the municipal line, smoked eel at Holland Paling, Rijnland's gemeenlandshuis, mill De Slokop, the paddle-wheel pumping station, a terrace on the kolk, and Cafe Spaarndam looking back at the lock. How it works This is a self-guided digital walking tour in the StepQuests mobile app. There is no live guide. After booking you receive an email invitation code to unlock the route.
