About this experience
Muiden is a fortress town on water, and the walk starts at the Muiderslot, the castle where P.C. Hooft kept a literary table in the 1630s. Café Ome Ko has sold drinks to sailors since 1810. The Groote Zeesluis went up in 1673 after the French invasion of 1672, when flooding around Muiden stopped the advance. Muizenfort is the low bombproof magazine on Bastion VIII. The Great Church tower of tuff stone is older than the forts. Nine stops, about 3 km, looping back to the IJmeer that was Zuiderzee until the Afsluitdijk closed in 1932.
